We are committed to protecting the identities and private information of our donors and clients. We recognize that sperm donation involves sensitive and very personal information, and that those who work with Fairfax Cryobank trust us to maintain their privacy and confidentiality. Fairfax Cryobank, our donors, and our clients agree to protect the parties’ privacy and confidentiality.
Non-ID Option Donors
Non-ID Option donors will remain unidentified, and Fairfax Cryobank will not release their identities. Fairfax Cryobank will not facilitate contact between Non-ID Option donors and recipients or offspring.
ID Option Donors
Donors who participate in our ID Option program agree to a limited release of identifying information to their offspring, once those offspring reach 18 years of age or older. If parents want their ID Option donor-conceived child to be able to obtain this information, then the parent(s) must register the child’s birth with us, so that we can authenticate the child’s identity at the time of his or her request. If a registered child does request information about his or her ID Option donor’s identity, we will let the donor know about the request, but will not provide him with any information about the requestor. Parents who choose an ID Option donor may also choose not to register their child, in which case the donor’s identity will not be shared with the child.
Identity of Recipients
We do not disclose information about our recipients or their offspring to our donors.
Maintaining Privacy in the Age of Internet Access and Genetics
Please note that is impossible to guarantee anonymity in the event that you, or possibly even relatives of yours, make genetic information available to others, by, for example, uploading it to an online genetic genealogy database.
